How much does it cost to join?
Annual subscriptions are £5 pp or £10 for a family.
How do you travel to Gouesnou?
We go by coach from Brecon to Plymouth and then by ferry to Roscoff, where we rejoin our coach. Gouesnou is 45 minutes away. It is an easy journey.
Where do you stay in Gouesnou?
We are hosted by Gouesnou members of their Association in their homes. We always receive a very warm and generous welcome. Our hosts provide all meals.
Do we have to speak French to join the Association?
Not at all. Many people in Gouesnou speak English. Of course if you can speak French it is an opportunity to practise.
How long are the visits to Gouesnou ?
Approximately five days including travel time, and usually in May/June every two years.
What happens during the day ?
We visit local places of interest as a group, and with our Gouesnou friends.
Do families go ?
Yes. We arrange the visits during the school holidays to incorporate families. It provides an opportunity for children to make friends and experience the Breton way of life. Sometimes “half families” go; maybe one parent plus one child. Sometimes it’s grandparents with their grandchildren.
How expensive is it ?
We try to keep the cost of the visit as low as possible but there is always a slight increase each year. In 2022 the approximate cost for an adult was £200 per adult and half price for children. This includes the cost of coach and ferry travel.
Do we have to host Gouesnou visitors when they visit Brecon ?
If possible we would ask you to host. Many people make friends and look forward to receiving them in Brecon. This is traditionally the way that Twinning Associations work. It is always possible to join with Brecon friends when hosting; joining together for meals for example.
Do I need a passport ?
Yes. You would need to comply with the regulations that are in place for visiting France at the time. Guidance is given by our members.
My daughter is sixteen and learning French. Would there be an opportunity for her to work in Gouesnou?
Yes, there have been many exchanges over the years of teenagers and young people undertaking voluntary work. They have been supported by both committees.

Oes teuluoedd yn mynd?
Oes. Rydyn ni’n trefnu’r ymweliadau yn ystod gwyliau’r ysgol, er cyfleustra i deuluoedd. Mae’n gyfle i blant wneud ffrindiau ac i brofi ffordd o fyw’r Llydawyr. Weithiau aiff “hanner teuluoedd”; efallai un rhiant a phlentyn. Weithiau mamgu neu dadcu gyda’u hwyrion.
